Palmas & Compas – This class is a flamenco-based rhythm and clapping (palmas) class. Palmas are a fundamental part of flamenco. Students will learn the proper positioning to play palmas, how to play palmas with/for a cuadro (flamenco group), and the many way to play palmas to the different palos (flamenco rhythms). Students will also study the structure and how to identify many of the over 50 palos of flamenco. This class is strongly suggested for those attending any flamenco dance class, flamenco guitar, or cajon class. Ages 12-99 welcome. No experience necessary. Dancing, guitar and cajon many be incorporated into this class from time to time.

Flamenco Guitar – Flamenco guitar is an accompaniment to flamenco dance and flamenco song. Unlike many forms of guitar, by studying flamenco guitar, students will learn how to play with a flamenco group or cuadro. This class will focus on the basic techniques of playing flamenco guitar such as rasqueado, golpes, and more. Students will begin to learn common cues given by the singer and/or dancer, thus learning how to improvise with the cuadro. A beginner to intermediate knowledge of any guitar playing is required for this class. Live dancing and singing may be incorporated into this class from time to time. Ages 16-99 welcome.

Cajon - The cajon is originally from Peru, but has been popularly incorporated in modern flamenco music. In this class, students will learn how to play the cajon with proper technique, in various rhythms, and how to start improvising. Students will also learn how to stop with dancers and singers. Tabla – Tabla is a Indian hand - drum that is modernly used to accompany belly dance. This class will teach students the proper technique needed for playing the tabla. Students will learn various rhythms needed to complement a dancer. Students will learn how to improvise as well. No experience is necessary for this class. A tabla drum is required for this class.
